News broke that Sony has registered a slew of domain names with the words "Bond" and "Skyfall" in them. Could this be the title of the next James Bond film? or is it simply a cover name like "Blue Harvest" was for "Return of the Jedi? Hopefully we will find out very soon. In the meantime here's a mock up for "SkyFall" if it turns out to be the actual title of Bond 23.

LEGOs - Battleship

Many months ago I posted images of two LEGO models, based on board games, that I planned to build, Clue and The Settlers of Catan. I am now in the process of building the Clue board. Due to the expensive of LEGOs this will take some time. However I'm hopeful I can have it finished by Christmas. This got me thinking about what other games would translate well to LEGOs. I quickly realized Battleship would be perfect.

After some trail an error determining the scale to go for I can now present my take on Battleship with LEGOs.

Indiana Jones - Posters 2004 - 2007

Along with James Bond and Star Wars I'm also a huge fan of the Indiana Jones series. Since the release of "The Last Crusade" in 1989 rumors of a fourth film circulated for almost twenty years before the release of "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in 2008. My posters were created in a four year period leading up to the release of the film. The challenge with Indiana Jones posters is trying to capture the look and feel of the posters created by the definitive Indiana Jones artist Drew Struzan. Here are my attempt to capture a bit of his magic.

I eventually plan to go back and make new posters for the series and look forward to the possibility of a fifth film.

Jeffery Deaver "Carte Blanche" Book Signing

Jeffery Deaver author of the new James Bond novel "Carte Blanche" held a book signing in Houston, TX and I made the trip down to meet him. The book signing was at a wonderful bookstore called "Murder by the Book." Mr. Deaver gave an enjoyable and informative talk about Bond and his personal writing style, followed by a Q & A and book signing.

I was number 42, which has special significance for fans of LOST and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If you have a chance to go see Mr. Deaver I highly recommend it.

Bond - The Daniel Craig Collection Part Three: 2006

As more photo from the set became available it was becoming quite easy for anyone to make a Casino Royale poster. To distinguish my fan art from everyone else I began looking forward to future Bond films. Although Casino Royale was still months away I was having fun with the future. Looking back five years latter these are amusing "What if...?"

These two posters reimagines "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" for the Craig era.

007 In New York is one of my all time favorite posters. The body is actually that of Pierce Brosnan in front of a green screen for Die Another Day publicity photos. A removed his head and replaced it with Daniel Craig's. I was unable to remove some of the green spill in the original photo so I simply made the poster green as well. It was out quite well and gives the sense of night vision goggles. Tilting the New York city skyline also gives the senses of motion, accentuated with multiple lines, I like to think Bond is hanging out the window of a New York City cab.

This post includes a series of character posters I did for Casino Royale. As these were based on the castinf announcement I had no official photos from the film to draw from. Therefore I had to use photos for the actors from other movies, tv shows, magazines, etc. I perticually like the poster for Caterina Murino as Solange although her character was quite different in the actual film. Immediately after I finished this series of poster official images from the set started to be released and they would find their way into my fan posters.

Designing fan posters lead me to pursue a career in film making. I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Art. My major was Cinematography with a secondary emphasis on graphic design. This film was made in the fall of 2009 while I was still an undergrad. I wrote the script in June and design a simple mock up of the title.

I based the credit sequence, and film poster on this design although I used a different font.

I made a DVD cover to go with the film to give to everybody who contributed in it's making.

The film was shot and edited over a three month period from October to December of 2009. The first showing of the completed film was shown to my film class on the last day of the semester. I entered the film into Austin, TX's "Fantastic Fest" film festival but it did not get in. I uploaded it to YouTube in December of last year, where you can watch it now.

Raymond Benson - James Bond Phenomenon

Today I had the opportunity to meet Raymond Benson, the author of six James Bond continuation novels. He was doing his presentation of "Raymond Benson - James Bond Phenomenon" at Lone Star College in Conroe, Texas. It's only a few hours drive from where I live so I went and Mr. Benson was nice enough to autograph my books and pose for a picture.

I'll also include my fan art posters based on the novels written by Mr. Benson if they had been adapted to the screen. My personal favorite is DoubleShot. After I reread Mr. Benson's novels I may make some more poster based on his work.

MI6 Community is having a Live and Let Die book cover contest and I thought I might take a stab at it. I went for something a little unusual. A retro 60s look that's heavy on typography where I was able to turn the number seven in a shark fin. I'm not sure I completely like it but it is different.

A fun mash-up I did of Star Wars and The Dukes of Hazzard. The similarities in characters is quite amazing when you compare the two. There's actually several Star Wars/Dukes mash-ups out there but I like to think mine is the best.

Bond - The Daniel Craig Collection Part One: 2005 - 2006

When Daniel Craig was announced as Bond there was a surprising amount of controversy. Many said he didn't look right for the part, he was too short, he was blond, he was NOT James Bond. Because of the doubt swirling out there my fan art took on more significance because now I had to try and prove that Craig could look like Bond.Thankfully EON released an image of Craig as 007 and the official logo for Casino Royale. I relied heavily on these images early on as my atempts to put Craig's head on Pierce Brosnan's body was only somewhat successful.

Along with fan art and fan videos I enjoy making things out of LEGOs. I'm a huge fan of the board games "Cleu" and "Settlers of Catan." I thought it would be interesting to recreate these board games using LEGOs. Using LEGO's Digital Designer I recreated the games. Here's how they turned out.

Bond - The Pierce Brosnan Collection Part Four: 2005 - 2007

This final part contains my posters made between 2005 and 2007 and represents my best work featuring Pierce Brosnan. We start with a Casino Royale poster, at the time we still didn't know if Brosnan was coming back or not. My other poster are a mixture of the previous films and adaptation of Raymond Benson's Bond novels. His novel DoubleShot was the basis for my favorite Brosnan poster.

As rumors were swirling that Casino Royale might be the next film I made several posters for a proposed Casino Royale with Brosnan as Bond. I also did an adaption of Raymond Benson's Bond novel "The Man with the Red Tattoo", it's my favorite from this group of posters.

Bond - The Pierce Brosnan Collection Part One: 2003

When I began making fan art in 2003 Pierce Brosnan was the current James Bond and I was looking foward to his fifth film in the series. Ultimately though Die Another Day, which came out the previous year would be his last. The majority of these posters from 2003 focus on possible future films. In hindsight these posters are rather crude as I was just beginning. However if you compare Firearm to Blockbuster you can already see a improvements a few months latter.

Because of the large numbers of Brosnan posters I will be breaking them down into four parts.

Bond - The Timothy Dalton Collection: 2004 - 2007

As with George Lazenby I have a limited number of posters for Timothy Dalton. His two Bond films were made during a time of financial instability at MGM. There would be a six year delayed before a third Dalton film could be released. By this time Dalton had moved on and the role fell to Pierce Brosnan who would relaunch the series to great success. Because of this the two films staring Mr. Dalton were for many years underrated and to some extent ignored by the general public. In light of the new serious direction the series has taken with Daniel Craig the Dalton films are undergoing a reevaluation. While I personally feel his films are a mixed bag one this is quite clear, Mr. Dalton reestablished Bond as a serious character with dramatic weight ultimately paving the way for Casino Royale.

Of the posters I have made my favorite is the second version of The Living Daylights followed by Licence To Kill.

Bond - Risico: Bond 23?

The biggest appeal to fan art is the ability to make posters for films that haven't come out yet. The years leading up to Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace produce a multitude of fan art. Part of the fun is guessing which title will be used, which actors will be cast and what locations Bond will visit next. One of my favorite aspects is the logo for the films title. Risico is a short story written by Bond creator Ian Fleming. The story's plot about drug smugglers has already been used for Roger Moore's Bond film "For Your Eyes Only." The title however could still be used. Here's my interpretation of a possible Risico logo.

Star Wars - The Complete Saga Poster Series: 2004

Here's a series of posters I did for the Star Wars The Complete Saga, Episodes I - VI. I had originally done a poster for Revenge of the Sith based on the previous two prequel posters by Drew Struzan. It tuned out well enough I decided to do the entire series with various results. I love the majority of them but Attack of the Clones is too busy and lacks focus while A New Hope seems bit sparse. My favorite poster from this series is Return of the Jedi, although I quite like the one for The Phantom Menace.

Bond - The Roger Moore Collection: 2003 - 2007

The third actor to play James Bond, Roger Moore, held on the the role the longest, twelve years from 1973 - 1985. His films are criticized from some for being too silly and getting away from Ian Fleming's original creation and while that is true to a certain degree I personally think Roger Moore made some of the most entertaining films in the series. Moonraker is one I enjoy tremendously and it was the first Moore poster I did. At the time I thought it was pretty good but looking back I was very disappointed and made a second superior version. It's my favorite Roger Moore poster.

Bond - George Lazenby and OHMSS

George Lazenby the second James Bond, only made one film in the series, 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Because of this I've only created a couple of Lazenby fan art posters. The first is from 2004 and the second from 2007. I particularly like the second. I was going for a high contrast approach to the poster as if Lazenby was in the middle of a snow storm and there was about to be a white out. This gives the poster a refreshingly minimalist approach which I was interested in exploring.

Bond - The Sean Connery Collection: 2003-2007

Here are all the Sean Connery posters I have created over the years. They are posted in chronological order and clearly show my progression in making fan art posters. The first Doctor No poster was created in 2003 while the final poster, Diamonds Are Forever was completed in 2007. Considering it's been four years since my last Sean Connery poster and with Dr. No's 50th Anniversary just around the corner Connery would be a good place to start with new fan art.

RNK Fan Art Is Back!

After years of neglect RNK Fan Art is back from the dead and in a new home. For those of you who are familar with my old site will know that it's been years since I adding any thing new too it. Gone are the days of AngelFire and HTML encoding, thank God.

Looking ahead to what you can expect form RNK Fan Art 2.0. Well first I will be re-uploading the majority of the fan art from the previous website, and second, if all goes according to plan I will be eventually creating new fan art.
